Since I’ll be learning so much about you, it seems only fair to share a little about myself.
I grew up in Croydon, South London, the youngest of three siblings. At 18, I moved to Cambridge to train as a nurse. Life took me on a new path after I had two small children; I returned to university to study social policy, which led to a Master’s degree in Social Work. This became my career for the next 18 years, where I dedicated myself to working with children and families.
In 2012, I met Mark, and we married in 2017. We now live in rural Cambridgeshire, close to the borders of Suffolk and Essex, with our two excitable dogs. We have a very large garden where I grow copious amounts of vegetables in 20 raised beds and a greenhouse! I love photography, cooking, and as I’ve got older have become a little obsessed by birds.
Life, as it does, brought its share of joys and challenges. When my dad passed away in 2020 during the pandemic, we arranged a humanist funeral for him. Religion had never been a part of his 85 years, and the ceremony felt meaningful and fitting. That experience planted a seed in my mind about becoming a celebrant. However, it wasn’t until 2023, after my mum’s unexpected death and another humanist funeral, that the idea truly took hold. These profound life events prompted me to reevaluate my priorities. I realised I wanted a role that allowed me to work closely with people in a way that was compassionate, meaningful, and gentle—both for others and for myself.
With my husband’s unwavering support, I decided to take the leap. In 2024, I left my job and dedicated myself to training with Humanists UK to become a celebrant for Weddings, Funerals, and Namings. I chose this path because it aligns perfectly with my values and my desire to honour life’s key transitions—birth, union, and death. These rites of passage are deeply interconnected, and I feel privileged to guide others through them.
Being a celebrant is a privilege. I get to learn about people’s lives, relationships, and stories, and then craft ceremonies that celebrate love in all its forms. Whether it’s the love between a couple, the joy of welcoming a new child, the bonds of blended families, or the love and memories cherished for someone who has died, my role is to create ceremonies that reflect these unique connections.
I pride myself on being a great listener, attuned to the details that matter most to you. I have the confidence and skill to connect with people from all walks of life, helping them feel at ease during what can sometimes be emotional and vulnerable times.
I can’t wait to hear your stories and transform them into a beautifully crafted ceremony that will resonate with you and your loved ones. My logo reflects my belief in life’s continuous journey—a cycle that encompasses birth, love, and loss, all woven into the rich tapestry of this wonderful life.
